Medical Cannabis FAQs

Patients qualify if they have a condition recognized by their state as debilitating or chronic. Massachusetts includes conditions like cancer, ALS, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, and Crohn’s disease, but also allows certification for issues such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, and chronic pain. New Hampshire requires patients to meet both a qualifying condition and a qualifying symptom, such as severe pain or nausea.

During your consultation, our provider, Emily, will review your medical history, discuss your symptoms, and determine whether you qualify for medical cannabis certification. You’ll also receive education about safe, effective use and guidance for registering with your state program.

Medical records are helpful but not always required. If you have documents such as a visit summary, problem list, or doctor’s note, you can email them to us before your appointment. If you don’t, conditions like anxiety, depression, or insomnia may be assessed directly during your visit.

Massachusetts patients can complete the entire process through telehealth and receive a temporary card the same day. New Hampshire patients are required by law to have their first appointment in person at our Bedford office, and their medical card will be mailed after the state approves the application.

  • Massachusetts: You’ll receive a temporary card immediately after certification, with the permanent card arriving later.

  • New Hampshire: Cards are mailed after the state processes your application, which typically takes a few weeks.

Some of the main benefits include:

  • Tax savings of up to 20% on each purchase

  • Higher possession limits compared to recreational users

  • Access to stronger, medical-grade products

  • Legal protections around employment and housing in many situations

  • Professional guidance from a licensed medical provider

Yes, Massachusetts patients are allowed to grow up to six plants for personal use. New Hampshire does not currently allow home cultivation under its medical program.

Your certification and state registration are confidential. Employers cannot fire you for responsible use outside of work hours in many cases, and landlords generally cannot deny housing based on medical cannabis use. Specific circumstances may vary, so it’s best to confirm with your HR representative or landlord.

No, insurance companies do not currently cover medical cannabis evaluations, certifications, or purchases. However, many patients find that tax savings and other benefits quickly offset the cost of certification.
